Louise Minks, artist, historian, writer, has an MA Degree in American History. She taught history to high school and college students prior to becoming a full time artist. Minks has lived and painted in Leverett, a rural town in western Massachusetts for 35 years. Her studio, "Millworks Studio at Montague Mills", is in a restored 1834 Gristmill where she operates a galley exhibiting her own artwork. She has worked with distinguished artists, George Cherepov and Charles Movalli. Travels to Africa, Costa Rica, Guatemala, the American Southwest have furnished the sources of her theme series artwork. Her colorful expressionistic acrylic paintings also focus on he local scenes in the Connecticut River Valley or along the seacoast, just hours away from her home. Her interest in history led her to develop several series of historical paintings that tour to educational and cultural institutions. She has written an art history book, "The Hudson River School". Crescent Books, 1989 and several history books for young people with her husband, Ben . In 1997 and 1998, Louise was awarded month-long painting residencies at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico. Her artwork has been exhibited in national juried exhibitions across the country. Louise also teaches painting workshops and workshops on the business of art for artists and artisans.
